LOTUS MANDALA

With this sketch, I attempted to take my time, something I personally have difficulty with. Usually I get antsy and find my focus wavering so instead of taking breaks, I just hastily finish. Which later ensues a disappointing sketch and a frustrated artist behind.

So I found something I love, a lotus, fun fact: I have it tattooed on my back, it’s my favorite flower, and force myself to challenge myself with making as many different patterns on each petal.

I have to say, disciplining myself was the hardest part. Telling myself it was okay to pause and take a break was hard at times, but it was worth it.

Upon finishing, I did not feel disappointment, rather a sense of progress in my training. Here’s to a long journey ahead. It’s the small mile stones!

Floral Mendala

Art Type: Mandala

Art Style: Stippling

Medium: Pen

I first stumbled across the stippling method while watching a tattoo show (Bondi Ink) on Netflix. The artist executed a perfect stippled geometric design.

After seeing how it was done and the amount of time it really does take, I was excited to try. Being that it was my first attempt, I was set on making a small piece just to test the waters.

Instead of copycatting the artist on the show I tried to make it more of a mandala (one of my favorite styles out right now).

This piece took me about 24 hours to complete…24 hours…of dots…I HAD AN ABSOLUTE BLAST!

Yes, it does seem like an eternity but the stippling method brings texture to an otherwise simple mandala. The challenge of this peice was the patience and initially getting the consistency of the dots to blend.

I love this method and I am so excited to present better and more extravagant pieces in the future using this method!

All in all, it wasn’t too shabby of a first try.
